MA EOHLC Funding Announcement Kicks Off at Lakeside in Worcester

Worcester, MA — September 3, 2026 — Cranshaw Construction’s project site at Lakeside in Worcester served as the backdrop for a major affordable housing announcement, as Governor Maura Healey and the Executive Office of Housing and Livable Communities (EOHLC) kicked off a statewide tour highlighting investments that will help create more than 2,500 new homes across Massachusetts. The administration announced $278 million in housing financing and tax credits to support 29 developments in 20 communities statewide.

The event spotlighted the ongoing transformation of the Lakeside community in Worcester, a multi-phase redevelopment effort led by Rich Mazzocchi of Tremont Development Partners, in partnership with the Worcester Housing Authority and project stakeholders. State officials highlighted Lakeside as an example of the collaborative investment needed to expand affordable housing opportunities and revitalize aging housing stock.

Cranshaw Construction is currently building Lakeside Phase 1, which will deliver 116 affordable apartment homes across two new energy-efficient buildings overlooking Coes Pond. Designed to Passive House standards, the development will feature significant sustainability and accessibility features, providing high-quality housing for Worcester residents. Cranshaw is also building Lakeside Phase 2, which will replace existing buildings with two new two-story condominium buildings.

Lakeside Phase 3, announced at the event as a recipient of EOHLC funding, will provide 103 homes.

The Lakeside redevelopment represents a long-term investment in Worcester’s future, replacing aging public housing with a vibrant mixed-income community while creating new housing opportunities for current and future residents.
