Union Square Station Plaza Ribbon Cutting

Cranshaw Construction had the privilege of participating in the ribbon-cutting ceremony, joined by Somerville Mayor Katjana Ballantyne and representatives from USQ and the design team, to formally inaugurate the new Union Square Station Plaza on Monday, October 23, 2023.

Nestled at the base of Prospect Union Square, Station Plaza expertly connects the new residential tower and the surrounding community with a fresh entry point to the Union Square Station transit station.

This remarkable project has breathed new life into a former scrap yard, creating an oasis for the community. Station Plaza not only fulfills the community’s longing for more open space but also connects the initial phase of USQ with the neighborhood’s existing fabric. It boasts an impressive 18,000 FT public area, marking the inauguration of the first of 12 public spaces in the USQ master plan.

Congratulations to developers at USQ; the designers, Ground Inc., a Woman-Business Enterprise (WBE) firm as well as Cranshaw’s subcontractors who have breathed life into this pocket of Somerville.

Local businesses made this celebration unforgettable, including: Union Square Donuts, Bloc, Jose Allende’s Jazz Trio, Rococo Floral co. and Ricky’s Flower Market.
