Cranshaw Construction Celebrates Topping Off of New MassDOT District 4 Administration Building

ARLINGTON, MA — July 10, 2026 — Cranshaw Construction recently celebrated a significant milestone in the construction of the new Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) District 4 Administration Building with a steel topping off ceremony at the project site in Arlington on Friday, July 10, 2026.

Representatives from MassDOT, Austin Architects, Owner’s Project Manager LeftField, Cranshaw Construction, trade partners, and project stakeholders gathered to sign the ceremonial beam before it was lifted and secured atop the new three-story headquarters building. The event marks the completion of the building’s structural steel frame.

The new District 4 Headquarters will replace the existing facility with a modern, approximately 47,500 SF administration building designed to achieve both Passive House Certification and Net Zero Energy status. The project reflects MassDOT’s commitment to sustainability, resiliency, and energy-efficient public infrastructure.

The structural steel frame was fabricated by Norgate Métal and erected by TC Iron, whose efforts helped bring the steel erection to this milestone.

Construction of the new headquarters is taking place adjacent to the existing operational facility and requires a carefully coordinated phased approach to maintain uninterrupted office and site operations throughout construction.

“We are grateful for the hard work, expertise, and collaboration demonstrated by every member of the project team,” said Chris Iannelli, Principal of Cranshaw Construction. “The topping off ceremony represents more than the placement of the final beam, it reflects the dedication that continues to move this project forward.”

Construction is ongoing, with project completion anticipated following the installation of building systems, enclosure, interior finishes, and site improvements.
