Cranshaw Celebrates Opening of Worcester’s Affordable Housing at District 120
Cranshaw Construction is proud to announce the opening of District 120, an 83-unit affordable housing complex located on the grounds of the former Table Talk Pies factory in Worcester’s Canal District. This milestone was celebrated with a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by city and state officials, including Worcester Mayor Joseph Petty, Massachusetts Secretary of Housing and Livable Communities Edward Augustus Jr. and Worcester City Manager Eric Batista.
District 120 stands seven stories near Kelley Square and across from the Worcester Red Sox’s Polar Park and is part of a broader redevelopment initiative in the area. District 120 was led by developer Rich Mazzocchi of Tremont Development Partners. In his remarks, Mr. Mazzocchi underscored the critical need for equitable housing opportunities amid a statewide housing crisis and celebrated the team, “To be able to provide those 83 homes to families in need is something we should all be proud of.”
“We are thrilled to be part of the continuing transformation of the Canal District,” said Principal Chris Iannelli of Cranshaw Construction. “This development not only honors the legacy of Table Talk Pies but also helps to address the urgent need for affordable housing in our state. We are honored to support projects like District 120 that offer residents new affordable homes.”
The building designed by Worcester-based Benoit Design Group features a diverse mix of units, including six studios, 28 one-bedroom units, 44 two-bedroom units, and five three-bedroom units. With amenities such as community rooms, a gym, and bicycle storage, District 120 provides residents with a comfortable and supportive living environment.
District 120 has received overwhelming interest, with over 750 applications for the 83 units. Of these, 69 units are reserved for residents earning at or below 60% of the area median income, and 14 units are for those earning at or below 30% of the area median income.
A groundbreaking was held in the fall of 2022.
