Cranshaw Celebrates Opening of New England’s Largest Supportive Housing Development

On Wednesday, March 12, 2025, Cranshaw Construction proudly celebrated the completion of The Lyndia at 3368 Washington Street, a landmark project in Jamaica Plain that stands as New England’s largest permanent supportive housing development. This five-story, 165,000-square-foot building offers 202 income-restricted units, including 140 units designated for individuals formerly experiencing homelessness and 62 units available for households earning 30-80% of the area median income.

Developed in collaboration by Pine Street Inn (PSI) and The Community Builders (TCB), the new residential property at 3368 Washington Street not only provides essential housing but also integrates comprehensive support services to foster a stable living environment.

The building features 14,000 square feet of office space for Pine Street Inn, an 800-square-foot community room, and amenities such as on-site management, 24/7 supportive services staff, community gathering spaces, fitness facilities, and landscaped outdoor plazas.

The project underscores Cranshaw Construction’s commitment to sustainable building practices. The development has all-electric units, aligning with environmental goals, and reusable building materials were donated back to the community, reflecting a dedication to both innovation and social responsibility.

In her official remarks at the ribbon cutting ceremony, Boston Mayor Michelle Wu remarked, “3368 Washington Street represents our unwavering commitment to ensuring every Bostonian has a safe, stable place to call home.”

Lyndia Downie, President and Executive Director of Pine Street Inn and the building’s namesake, added, “The opening of this new building marks a milestone for Pine Street Inn, bringing our total to more than 1,000 units of housing – 1,100 to be exact – for people moving out of homelessness.”

Chris Iannelli, Cranshaw Construction’s Principal in Charge on The Lyndia project commented, “Building at 3368 Washington Street was about more than just construction—it was about creating a foundation for stability, dignity, and community. Cranshaw Construction is proud to have played a role in delivering a project that will have a lasting impact on the neighborhood and on so many lives.”

Other dignitaries in attendance were Massachusetts Undersecretary of Housing Stabilization Chris Thompson, 15th Suffolk District Representative Samantha Montaño, as well as Boston City Councilor Benjamin Weber and Boston Chief of Housing Sheila Dillon.

RODE Architects of Boston designed the facility and Ivey Bueno Art Advisory partnered with the developers to source work exclusively from artists who have ties to the project’s surrounding neighborhoods.

A topping off ceremony was held in June of 2023 to celebrate the mid point of construction completion.
